Uber Technologies has appointed Indian-origin Balaji Krishnamurthy as the company’s new chief financial officer.

Krishnamurthy, who has been with Uber for more than six years, is scheduled to take over the new role from Feb. 16. This comes after the resignation of the present chief financial officer, Prashanth Mahendra-Rajah.

Mahendra-Rajah will step down on Feb. 16 after less than three years as CFO. However, he will continue to be the senior finance adviser until July 1 to ensure a smooth transition.

Who is Balaji Krishnamurthy?

Krishnamurthy is currently serving as vice-president, strategic finance and investor relations. Working with the top management and shareholders, Krishnamurthy has played a major part in capital allocation decisions and financial planning.

Krishnamurthy, 41, joined the company in 2019. He has served in a range of leadership roles, including Vice President, Strategic Finance, since 2023. Prior to this, he was the Head of Investor Relations from 2020 to 2023, as per his LinkedIn bio.

On his appointment, Krishnamurthy said it was an honour to step into the role. “As the undisputed global mobility and delivery leader, and with significant cash flows, we have the opportunity to further solidify our place as a generational technology company,” he said in the company’s regulatory filing.

Krishnamurthy was also a part of Goldman Sachs for eight years. He served as vice-president in equity research, covering US hardware and communications technology.

He has served Irevna and iTrust Financial Advisors in India. At present, he is a board member at Waabi.

Krishnamurthy completed his Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the Management Development Institute (MDI) in Gurugram. He has completed a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communications from Manipal Institute of Technology.
