Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd is offering customers a chance to buy special, easy-to-remember mobile numbers—popularly known as VIP, Fancy, or Vanity Numbers through its official e‑auction platform. These numbers come with attractive digit patterns such as repeated digits, ascending or descending sequences, or personalised combinations. They are available for both prepaid and postpaid users across India.

What Is a BSNL VIP Number?

A BSNL VIP number is a mobile number featuring a unique or memorable digit pattern, making it easy to recall and visually appealing. Users often opt for such numbers to enhance personal identity or boost brand recall for businesses. BSNL categorises VIP numbers into various patterns, such as repeated digits (e.g., 8888), sequential combinations, and unique numeric sequences. These premium numbers are updated and listed on BSNL’s e-auction website, where users can participate in bidding. Depending on the pattern and demand, VIP numbers may start from a few thousand rupees and go up significantly.

How BSNL’s E‑Auction Process Works

  • To get a VIP number, customers must register on eauction.bsnl.co.in.
  • After selecting their telecom circle, users must register using a valid mobile number and email address.
  • BSNL then sends login credentials to the registered email. Once logged in, users can browse available VIP numbers and place their bids.
  • A refundable registration fee must be paid before bidding.
  • Every auction cycle ends with BSNL shortlisting the top three bidders — H1, H2, and H3.
  • The highest bidder (H1) gets the first chance to claim the number. If H1 fails to complete payment or activation within the stipulated time, the number is offered to H2, and so on.
  • Registration fees for unsuccessful bidders are refunded within 10 days.

Charges and Fees

BSNL charges a registration fee, which varies based on the number type. The final payable amount depends on the highest bid placed. Attractive VIP numbers may range from Rs 5,000 to Rs 25,000 or more, depending on demand and digit pattern.

Who Can Apply?

Any Indian citizen or registered company can participate in the BSNL VIP number e‑auction. A valid mobile number and working email ID are mandatory for registration.

It should be noted that the Vanity number should not be sold to others by the highest bidder after the award, if so BSNL has the right to cancel the same. The vanity number will be allotted to the highest bidder on completion of the payment process within the given timeframe, subject to the verification of all required documents. The BSNL said that the Auction number After Activation should not to be ported out to other operator before 36 months from activation date.
