Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday reviewed the progress of the proposed Purandar Airport project near Pune. In an X post, he emphasised that the land acquisition for the project should be completed within a fixed timeline through MIDC.

“Directed officials to focus on Pune’s rapidly growing investment, industrialisation, and urbanisation, to accelerate the development of the airport in line with the city’s future needs. Instructed to complete land acquisition within a fixed timeline through MIDC and to finalise a specific funding mechanism for airport development,” the CM posted.

“Directed CIDCO and the Urban Development Department to clearly define their responsibilities, with CIDCO ensuring land availability, as the area around the airport will emerge as a future ‘development zone’,” he added.

He further instructed authorities to strengthen the Maharashtra Airport Development Company Ltd. All ongoing airport projects in the state will be handled by this agency.

“Directed officials to place a proposal on the funding mechanism for the airport project before the next cabinet meeting. This project will strengthen industrial growth in Pune and the surrounding regions while creating largescale economic opportunities for local communities,” the CM said.

In a separate post in Marathi, Fadnavis informed land acquisition was underway in seven villages of Pune district for the project.

The Chief Minister’s office stated that the CM had issued directives to complete the joint measurement of 1,216 hectares of land in the proposed area and submit a report on objections to the government.
