What does a change in market hours mean?

Sebi has proposed two alternatives. Under Option A, continuous trading in all stocks would continue until 3:30pm. CAS for eligible F&O stocks would then run from 3:30 pm to 3:40pm, after a one-minute transition period. Derivatives trading would continue until 3:45pm, giving traders five minutes after CAS ends.

Currently, transition to CAS begins at 3:15pm while the actual CAS window runs from 3:20pm to 3:30pm. While the cash markets close with CAS, derivatives trading is allowed until 3:45pm. The timing of the derivatives market post-CAS would shrink if the proposals come into effect.
