Turkish Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing In Kolkata After Engine Fire

A full emergency was declared at Kolkata Airport at 1:38 p.m. on Feb. 4, 2026, after a Turkish Airlines Airbus A330 flying from Kathmandu to Istanbul reported a fire in its right engine shortly after take-off and had to make an landing in Kolkata. According to the Civil Aviation Ministry, the crew managed to bring the situation under control at 1:31 pm, but the aircraft proceeded with one engine shut down.

“The flight declared PAN PAN, an international radio distress signal, due to right engine on fire and requested to divert to Kolkata at 1.38 pm with one engine failure,” a statement from the Ministry said.

The flight, operating as THY-727, was carrying 236 passengers. The pilots diverted the aircraft to Kolkata after alerting air traffic control about the engine fire. A full emergency landing was successfully carried out at 2:31 pm, and all passengers disembarked safely.

Officials at the NSCBI international airport here said no reports of injury to passengers were received.
