India’s indigenous artificial intelligence models are “in good shape” and will be formally unveiled at the IndiaAI Impact Summit scheduled to be held in New Delhi on Feb. 19, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Friday.

Speaking ahead of the summit, Vaishnaw said the government-backed AI models being developed under the IndiaAI Mission are now ready to be showcased.

The summit will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is expected to bring together global technology leaders, policymakers and industry captains.

The IndiaAI Impact Summit will see participation from several high-profile names, including Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran, Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani and Bharti Enterprises founder Sunil Bharti Mittal, among others. Around 14 heads of state are also expected to attend.

Vaishnaw said the summit would mark the culmination of IndiaAI Mission 1.0, with additions planned to the common compute stack that supports domestic AI development. He added that work on IndiaAI Mission 2.0 is underway and is expected to be launched over the next five to six months.

The minister also indicated that the government is considering new institutional frameworks for AI governance, including the idea of an AI Economic Council and an AI Governance Council, proposals that were flagged in the Economic Survey. These ideas are currently being examined by the Principal Scientific Adviser’s office.

During the summit, New Delhi will also host the Global Partnership on AI (GPAI) Council meeting on Feb. 20, as it looks to pass on the GPAI chair baton.
