Silver prices on Friday breached the Rs 4 lakhs per kilogram-mark in the national capital, while gold hovered near fresh record high of Rs 1.83 lakhs per 10 grams, tracking a sharp rally in global markets amid rising geopolitical and economic uncertainty.

Silver extended gains for the fourth consecutive day surging 5.06%, to an all-time high, reports news agency PTI. Gold’s prices were boosted after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent indicated that Trump could make an announcement “tomorrow morning” about who he will pick to be the next chair of the Federal Reserve.

The gold rate in India on Wednesday is Rs 1,70,480 while the silver rate is Rs 4,02,490, according the Bullions website.

The southern markets continue to record the highest figures in the country. Chennai leads the metros with a peak rate of Rs 1,70,670, while Hyderabad and Bengaluru follow closely at Rs 1,70,440 and Rs 1,70,310 respectively, keeping the price gap between the southern hubs and the northern capital distinct.

Silver’s rise is further amplified by its dual role in AI data centers and solar energy, coupled with tight physical supply. In the national capital, Delhi, silver is keeping pace with Mumbai, currently priced at Rs 4,01,060 per kg.
