Stock market today: Indian equity markets ended the week on a cautious note, extending their recent correction as elevated crude oil prices, rising global bond yields and continued geopolitical uncertainty dampened investor sentiment. Volatility remained high, with benchmark indices staging a recovery during the week but closing Friday’s session largely flat as investors continued to monitor global risk factors.
For the week, the Nifty slipped around 0.47% to end at 24,252, while the Sensex declined nearly 0.60% to 77,540.83. Meanwhile, the broader market showed relative resilience, with the SmallCap index rising around 1.2%, whereas the MidCap index edged down marginally.
On Monday, the market is likely to open higher as the Gift Nifty index signalled a positive opening. Gift Nifty was trading near the 24,329.50 mark, up over 43.50 points from the previous close of Nifty futures.
“Indian equity markets are set to begin the week on a cautious footing as persistent Middle East tensions and elevated crude oil prices continue to temper risk appetite. Crude prices remain firm, with WTI trading near $86 a barrel as markets brace for fresh U.S. sanctions against Iran amid an already prolonged geopolitical standoff. Early indications from GIFT Nifty futures, trading in the 24,300–24,350 range against the Nifty’s previous close of 24,252, suggest a largely flat to marginally positive start for domestic equities,” said Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money.
As the market is pointing towards a positive start, some stocks are likely to remain in focus on Monday due to their own positive/negative triggers.
