Stock Market prediction for Monday, 24 August 2026: The key benchmark indices of the Indian stock market concluded the week on a cautious note, extending their recent corrective trend amid high crude oil prices, rising global bond yields, and continued geopolitical tensions that dampened investor sentiment.

Trading remained volatile throughout the week, with benchmark indices staging a recovery at one point before ending Friday largely unchanged as investors continued to evaluate the evolving global risk landscape.

Sensex, Nifty: What happened last week

On a weekly basis, the Nifty 50 index slipped about 0.47% to close at 24,252, while the Sensex declined nearly 0.60% to settle at 77,540.83. Meanwhile, the broader markets showed relative resilience, with the SmallCap index gaining around 1.2% and the MidCap index edging marginally lower.

On Friday, the benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty 50, closed largely unchanged, marking their second straight week of losses. The Sensex edged up just 3 points to finish at 77,540.83, while the Nifty 50 gained 20 points, or 0.08%, to settle at 24,252.

Sensex, Nifty prediction for tomorrow: Sensex, Nifty outlook

According to Ponmudi R, CEO – Enrich Money, markets are heading into the coming week with investor attention centred on three key themes: the Federal Reserve’s policy trajectory, Nvidia’s quarterly results and the unresolved U.S.-Iran conflict.

“For Indian equities, the interplay between crude oil, U.S. Treasury yields and the dollar is therefore likely to remain critical. Investors will also track movements in the rupee and institutional flows as they assess whether domestic markets can stabilise after the recent correction. With the bulk of the June-quarter earnings season now behind the market, global macroeconomic and geopolitical developments are likely to assume a greater role in setting the near-term direction,” Ponmudi said.

Sensex

The Sensex ended almost unchanged at 77,540.83, gaining just 3.11 points. Despite a strong start, the benchmark remained largely range-bound throughout the session. It opened with a gap-up of nearly 163 points at 77,701.01 and climbed to an intraday high of 77,725.67. However, the early gains were short-lived, as the index later slipped to a low of 77,445.86 before moving within a narrow range for the rest of the day. Eventually, the Sensex settled at 77,540.83, posting marginal gains of 3.11 points.

On the Sensex outlook, Hitesh Tailor, Technical Research Analyst at Choice Equity Broking, said, “From a technical perspective, the index continues to trade around its 50-Day EMA but remains below the crucial 200-Day EMA, keeping the broader trend cautious. RSI at 49.00 indicates subdued momentum, with no clear directional strength at present. Immediate support is placed at 77,000–77,380, while 77,720–78,000 remains the key resistance zone.

The overall bias remains Sideways to Cautious, as Sensex continues to consolidate near the 50-Day EMA while facing resistance around the 200-Day EMA. A sustained move above the 77,720–78,000 zone would improve the short-term outlook, while continued holding above the 77,000–77,380 support zone would keep the consolidation structure intact.”

Nifty 50

The Nifty experienced increased volatility during the week but bounced back from lower levels, reflecting buying interest during declines. The index continues to remain in a broader consolidation phase after the recent correction, with its ability to hold above the key psychological level of 24,000 crucial for preserving the underlying market structure.

On the Nifty 50 outlook, Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking, said, “Immediate support is placed in the 24,000–23,800 zone, followed by stronger support near 23,650. On the upside, the 24,400–24,600 zone remains the key resistance area. A decisive breakout above this range could trigger a fresh recovery, while failure to cross the zone could keep the index range-bound.”

US markets performance: Outlook

US stocks advanced on Friday, helping to reduce some of the losses from an otherwise volatile week. However, the bond market, which has remained at the centre of Wall Street’s attention, continued to show volatility and exert pressure on the broader market.

The S&P 500 gained 0.4%, marking only its second advance in the six trading sessions since it hit a record high last week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 517 points, or 1%, while the Nasdaq Composite also rose 0.4%.

On the technical outlook, Mahesh M. Ojha, VP- Research and Business Development at Kantilal Chhaganlal Securities, said that the Dow Jones is likely to face immediate resistance in the 53,591–53,800 range, followed by a higher hurdle at 54,100. On the downside, support is at 52,550, with additional support at 52,338 and 51,920.

Meanwhile, the Nasdaq has immediate resistance between 26,212 and 26,360, followed by 26,450. Its key support levels are at 25,970, 25,875, and 25,730, which could act as important cushions in the event of further weakness, he added.

South Korea markets: Kospi index outlook

South Korean shares ended higher on Friday, even as the benchmark posted a weekly decline amid heightened volatility in AI-related stocks.

The tech-heavy Kospi gained 60.37 points, or 0.88%, to close at 6,912.95, with chipmakers tracking overnight gains in their U.S. counterparts. However, the index fell 0.9% for the week, following an 11.5% surge in the previous week—its strongest weekly gain since early May—which had also ended a seven-week losing streak.

On the Kospi’s technical outlook, Ojha further added that the index continues to maintain a bullish trend, indicating a positive market outlook as long as it holds above key support levels.

“On the upside, the index faces immediate resistance at 7,040, followed by 7,340 and a stronger hurdle around 7,600 and above. Meanwhile, key support levels are placed at 6,680, 6,500, and 6,280. A sustained move above the resistance zones could further strengthen the bullish momentum, while a break below the support levels may lead to increased selling pressure,” he said.

The top performers on the Taiwan Weighted during the session included Msscorps Co Ltd, which jumped 10%, or 42 points, to close at 462.
