Welspun Corp, Jyoti CNC lead weekly gainers despite weak market sentimentIndian stock market next week: Crude, bond yields, and geopolitical risks to keep markets volatile

Welspun Corp., Jyoti CNC Automation, and Welspun Living were among nearly a dozen Nifty 500 stocks that have delivered double-digit gains this week, even as the broader market remained under pressure amid rising energy prices, turmoil in global bond markets, and persistent geopolitical uncertainty.

Growing tensions in the Middle East, coupled with the U.S. preparations to impose sweeping sanctions on Iran next week, pushed crude oil prices to a one-month high.

Meanwhile, global bond yields climbed to multi-decade highs as investors demanded greater compensation amid concerns over inflation and rising government debt levels.

The Nifty 50 extended its losing streak to seven consecutive sessions through Wednesday, marking its longest run of daily declines in 11 months, as rising oil prices reignited inflation concerns. India imports around 85% of its crude oil requirements, making the domestic economy particularly vulnerable to a sustained rise in energy prices.

These concerns outweighed better-than-expected June-quarter earnings. Domestic investors also appeared to shift away from large-cap stocks, with July mutual fund data showing a divergence in flows as mid-cap and small-cap funds continued to attract investor interest.

Indian stock market next week: Crude, bond yields, and geopolitical risks to keep markets volatile

Ajit Mishra, SVP – Research at Religare Broking, said the market is likely to remain volatile in the near term as geopolitical uncertainty, elevated crude oil prices, and global bond yields continue to influence investor sentiment. While domestic economic fundamentals remain relatively supportive, external factors are likely to have a greater bearing on the direction of Indian equities.

He said investors should maintain a selective approach and focus on companies with strong earnings visibility, healthy balance sheets, sustainable cash flows, and improving relative strength. Banking, financial services, infrastructure, capital goods, defence, metals, and select healthcare stocks appear relatively better positioned, while caution is warranted in sectors vulnerable to higher crude prices and global demand uncertainty.

Given the prevailing volatility, Mishra advised traders to avoid aggressively chasing prices and instead use meaningful declines to gradually accumulate fundamentally strong companies.

Disciplined position sizing, prudent risk management, and a stock-specific approach are likely to remain critical until greater clarity emerges on global monetary policy, crude oil prices, and geopolitical developments.

Ponmudi R., CEO of Enrich Money, said that the interplay between crude oil, U.S. Treasury yields, and the dollar is therefore likely to remain critical. Investors will also track movements in the rupee and institutional flows as they assess whether domestic markets can stabilise after the recent correction.

“With the bulk of the June-quarter earnings season now behind the market, global macroeconomic and geopolitical developments are likely to assume a greater role in setting the near-term direction,” he added.
